Prof. Gavin Barrett

Jean Monnet Professor of Economic and Constitutional Law

Gavin Barrett is a Professor specialising in European Union Law in the Sutherland Law School, UCD. A barrister, he is the author or editor of several books as well as numerous book chapters and articles on European-related themes. His book on the evolving role of national parliaments in the EU is about to be published by Manchester University Press. He has written in all of the major national newspapers and appears frequently on radio and television. He has spoken before parliamentary committees in several countries, including Joint Oireachtas Committees on sixteen occasions and the House of Lords EU Affairs Committee twice. His work has been cited in the German Federal Constitutional Court’s Lisbon decision as well as in House of Lords reports.
